CASCAP 1980-1981 Annual Report
Preface
Before beginning this odyssey into the past, it's important to note that Cascap has changed much over the years responding to the changing needs of the people we serve. But, the spirit of the agency - providing services for people with differing needs and being a good neighbor in the Cambridge and Somerville communities - hasn't changed, and isn't likely to change in the years to come. Cascap will continue to evolve to meet the needs of its consumers. You can see ways in which Cascap is meeting consumer needs throughout this web site. This "look back in time" reflects that evolution.
The following is taken from Cascap's 1980-81 Annual Report:
Introduction
CASCAP, Inc. is a private non-profit agency established to provide community residential services to Cambridge and Somerville residents with chronic mental illness.
CASCAP is a program of the Cambridge and Somerville Mental Health and Retardation Center. We work closely with the Somerville Mental Health Clinic, the Department of Psychiatry of Cambridge Hospital, Fresh Pond Day Treatment Center and Schiff Center.
CASCAP is confident that with our dedicated Board of Directors and competent and hard working staff, we will continue to provide quality services to the Cambridge and Somerville community.
To Our Friends and Supporters:
It is eight years since CASCAP, Inc. was founded to provide residential services to Cambridge and Somerville residents with chronic mental illness. In that time, CASCAP has grown from one ACS worker with virtually no programming money to a major community agency with a staff of twenty-nine. In the past year alone, our residential capacity has almost doubled.
As we enter our ninth year of operation it seems an appropriate time to evaluate our growth and our plans for the future. It also offers us an opportunity to thank those people who helped us with their cooperation, support, or financial contributions.
The focus of this report is on change - the transition process that has affected the new residents and the program alike. It is our hope that this report will impart some of the excitement generated by our growth, and our pride in all that has been accomplished.
